Unlearning Striving
Ephesians 2:8–9
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Reflection
Many of us unknowingly build a version of faith rooted in effort. We know salvation is by grace, yet we subtly live as though spiritual maturity must be earned through constant striving.
But grace is not just the doorway it is the atmosphere. If faith leaves you anxious and depleted, it may be rooted in performance rather than gift. A gift is received, not achieved.
Unlearning striving takes time. It means recognizing where we have tied God’s approval to our output. It means allowing ourselves to rest without feeling irresponsible. It means trusting that growth can happen in stillness as much as in action.
Grace breathes. Striving suffocates. The Spirit gently leads you away from the version of faith that exhausted you and into one that steadies you.
Prayer
Lord, show me where I have built my faith on effort instead of grace. Help me unlearn patterns that leave me tired and anxious. Teach me to receive what You freely give. I want my faith to breathe again. In Jesus Name I pray Amen.
Reflection Questions
What spiritual habits feel driven by fear instead of love?
Where might I be striving to earn what has already been given?
How can I practice receiving grace today?
Today’s Thought
Grace is not something I graduate from it is where I live.
