God Is at Work in Me as I Surrender My Will to Him
Philippians 2:13
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good purpose.”
I do not have to discover one impressive accomplishment before my life has purpose. God is already at work in me as I follow Christ and surrender my plans to Him. I can ask what faithfulness looks like today and trust Him to shape both my desires and my actions according to His good purposes.
I Can Courageously Take the Next Faithful Step Because God Is With Me
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you: Be strong and courageous?
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD
your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua’s courage was not based on confidence in himself. God had given him a responsibility and promised His presence as Joshua moved forward in obedience. I do not have to know every step ahead or feel completely fearless before I respond faithfully to God. My confidence rests in the God who is with me.
When I am afraid, I can choose to trust God.
Psalm 56:3–4
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
David does not pretend that fear is absent. He acknowledges it and deliberately turns his trust toward God. This affirmation reminds us that faith can coexist with fear as we choose to place our confidence in God and His word.
My Strength to Live Faithfully Comes From Abiding in Jesus
John 15:4, BSB
“Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.”
Jesus does not ask me to manufacture enough strength to live the Christian life on my own. He invites me to remain close to Him. As I abide in Christ, He shapes my heart, strengthens my faith, and produces the fruit that I cannot produce through striving alone.
I can rest my confidence in the Lord, who remains steadfast.
Isaiah 26:3–4
“You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, because GOD the LORD is the Rock eternal.”
Isaiah connects steadfast trust with peace because the object of that trust is the Lord Himself. Our confidence is not grounded in circumstances staying predictable, but in God’s enduring character and strength.
I can trust God even when I do not understand the way ahead.
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs calls us away from relying solely on our own limited understanding and toward wholehearted trust in the Lord. Trusting God does not mean we will always know what He is doing; it means we acknowledge Him and depend on His wisdom as we walk forward.
