Choosing Presence

“But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
— Luke 10:42

Reflection:

Some of us are fixers.

When something feels off, we search for solutions. When someone is hurting, we try to make it better. When life feels uncertain, we tighten our grip.

It isn’t wrong. It often comes from love.

But striving can quietly replace sitting.

In Luke 10, Martha is busy serving, managing, preparing  all good things. Yet Jesus gently redirects her heart. Mary sits. And Jesus calls it the better part.

Not because serving is bad.
But because presence sustains what performance never can.

Today is not about doing less out of laziness.

It is about doing less from anxiety.

It is about remembering that peace is not found in control, but in Christ.

You are allowed to pause.

Prayer

Lord, I confess how quickly I try to fix what feels uncertain. Teach me to choose presence over pressure. Help me sit with You without feeling guilty or restless. Anchor my heart in what truly matters. In Jesus' Name I pray Amen

Reflection Questions:

  • Where do you feel pressure to manage everything right now?

  • What would it look like to invite Jesus into that space instead of trying to carry it alone?

  • What emotions rise up in you when you slow down — guilt, restlessness, fear — and what might those feelings be revealing about your need for control?

Today’s Thought:

Today, I choose to sit with Jesus before I solve everyone's problems.
