Does God Really Love Me?

Scripture:

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, 

that we should be called children of God!”

 — 1 John 3:1

Reflection:

If we’re honest, many of us have asked this question at some point in our lives:

Does God really love me?

Maybe you’ve whispered it through tears after a painful loss. Maybe you’ve wondered it while sitting alone in a room full of people. Maybe you’ve questioned it after a mistake you wish you could undo.

Or perhaps you’ve looked at the circumstances of your life and thought, If God loves me, why does life hurt so much? These questions are not signs of weak faith. They are often the cries of a heart that longs to know God more deeply.

The truth is that God’s love is unlike any love we experience in this world. Human love can disappoint us. People can leave, misunderstand us, reject us, or fail to meet our deepest needs. Because of those experiences, we sometimes project those wounds onto God and wonder if He feels the same way about us.

But God’s love is not based on our performance. He doesn’t love us because we have everything together. He doesn’t love us because we pray enough, serve enough, or know enough Scripture. He loves us because love is part of who He is. Long before you ever thought about God, He was thinking about you. Long before you called out to Him, He was reaching toward you. Long before you knew His name, He knew yours.

Throughout this week, we’re going to explore what Scripture says about God’s love. We’ll look at difficult questions about pain, suffering, disappointment, and doubt. We’ll discover that God’s love is often deeper and more steadfast than we can imagine.  If you’ve ever wondered whether God truly loves you, this week is for you. And if you already know He loves you but struggle to feel it, this week is for you too.

Today, simply rest in this truth:

You are not forgotten. You are not invisible. You are not beyond His reach.

The God who created you knows your name, sees your story, and loves you more than you realize.

When have you most questioned God’s love for you?

What would change in your life if you truly believed that God loves you right now, exactly where you are?

Prayer

Father,

Sometimes I struggle to understand Your love. There are moments when my circumstances, my fears, and my wounds make me question whether You truly care about me.

This week, open my heart to see You more clearly. Help me to understand Your love not through the lens of my experiences, but through the truth of Your Word.

Remind me that I am seen, known, and loved by You. Teach me what it means to live loved.
