Learning to Spend Time With Jesus

Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
John 15:4

Reflection

When someone begins a relationship with Jesus, one of the most important things they can learn is simply how to spend time with Him. Think about any meaningful relationship in your life. Friendships grow through time spent together. Conversations deepen. Trust builds. The same is true in our relationship with the Lord.

Jesus once used a beautiful picture to describe this. He said He is the vine, and we are the branches. A branch doesn’t struggle to produce fruit by trying harder. Instead, it stays connected to the vine. The life of the vine flows through it, and fruit naturally begins to grow.

In the same way, the Christian life is not about trying harder to be a better person. It’s about learning to stay connected to Jesus. We do this by spending time with Him. Sometimes that looks like reading the Bible and listening to what God’s Word says. Sometimes it looks like talking with Him in prayer. Sometimes it simply means sitting quietly and becoming aware of His presence.

These moments don’t need to be long or complicated. What matters most is that we come to Him with an open heart. And here’s something beautiful to remember:

You are never the only one reaching out.

Jesus is always the one inviting you closer. Every time you open His Word, every time you pray, every time you pause to turn your heart toward Him, you are responding to His invitation to walk with Him. And little by little, as you spend time with Him, you begin to know Him more.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for inviting me into a relationship with You. Help me learn how to spend time with You each day. Give me a desire to read Your Word and talk with You in prayer. Teach me to remain close to You so that my life can grow and bear fruit. Amen.

  2. What helps you feel most connected to God—reading Scripture, praying, or quiet      reflection?

  3. How might your relationship with Jesus grow as you spend time with Him      regularly?
