Loving God Above All Else
Scripture:
“No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24)
Reflection:
Love requires exclusivity. Just as in marriage, where divided love breaks trust, God calls us to love Him above all else. Jesus warns that we cannot serve two masters. Our hearts are not built to be divided; they will always give loyalty to what we love most.
This doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the good things of life, but it means they cannot take the place of God. Money, success, relationships, or comfort may compete for our hearts, but they make poor masters. Only God’s love can truly satisfy.
Loving God above all else brings freedom. Instead of being enslaved by lesser loves, we are anchored in the One who is eternal and unchanging. When He has first place in our hearts, everything else finds its proper place.
Prayer:
Lord, guard my heart from divided loyalties. Help me to love You above all else and to put You first in every part of my life.
Reflection Questions:
What “masters” compete for my love and devotion?
2. How can I reorder my life to give God first place?
