Pt. 10 - Praying God's Word: Praying for Healing

Lifted in prayer, wrapped in His Word—healing begins with Him.

Healing can take many forms – physical, emotional, and spiritual. In my own journey, I’ve seen the power of God’s healing in both myself and others. God brought deep emotional healing to my life, restoring parts of me I thought would never be whole again. I’ve also had the privilege of seeing a friend experience an incredible physical healing. Through it all, I’ve learned that praying for healing goes hand-in-hand with trusting God, and that trust grows from a deep, personal relationship with Him.

When we come to God with prayers for healing, it takes faith – not in our own ability, but in the One who has the power to heal. Faith isn’t always easy, but God’s Word is filled with promises and reassurances that He is our Healer. Here are some powerful scriptures and a bit of my story to encourage you to pray for healing with faith and trust.

Healing Promises from God’s Word

The Bible speaks over and over of God’s heart to heal, restore, and make whole. Here are a few verses that remind us of His willingness to bring healing:

Isaiah 53:5 – “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.”

Isaiah reminds us that Jesus took on not only our sins but also our sicknesses and pains. When we pray, we can remember that our healing was paid for on the cross.

Psalm 147:3 – “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

This verse reminds me of the emotional healing God brought to my life. He is close to the brokenhearted and tenderly binds our wounds – physical, emotional, or spiritual.

Jeremiah 30:17 – “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord.”

In this promise, God speaks directly of restoration and health. Whether you’re praying for yourself or someone else, this verse reminds us that God’s desire is to bring healing.

Praying for Healing with Faith

Seeing my friend experience physical healing showed me the incredible power of faith-filled prayer. God’s healing touched her life in ways that were nothing short of miraculous. And yet, my own journey was different. For me, the healing wasn’t physical, but emotional, lifting burdens I had carried for years. Through this, I learned that healing takes on many forms, each one uniquely powerful.

In both cases, we prayed with faith. But faith isn’t about demanding a specific outcome – it’s about trusting that God knows what we need. As Matthew 21:22 says, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” When we pray for healing, we come to God with open hearts, believing that He will answer in the way that is best for us.

Trusting God Requires Knowing Him Personally

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that trusting God with healing – or with anything – means we have to know Him personally. In order to pray with faith, we need to trust that God loves us, sees us, and knows what is best for us. And to trust God, we need to have a relationship with Him.

This relationship grows as we spend time in prayer, in His Word, and in worship. When we come to know God’s character, His goodness, and His promises, we can face life’s challenges with a deeper sense of peace and confidence. It’s easier to believe in His power to heal when we’ve experienced His love and faithfulness firsthand.

A Simple Prayer for Healing

If you’re praying for healing today, know that God is near. Here’s a simple prayer to start with:

Lord, thank You for Your love and compassion. I come to You with faith, believing that You are my healer. Whether my need is physical, (emotional, or spiritual,) I ask that You touch my life with Your healing power. Help me to trust You completely, knowing that Your plans for me are always good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Healing Happens in His Perfect Way and Time

If you’re waiting for healing, remember that God’s timing is perfect. I learned that while God may not always answer in the way we expect, His answers are always filled with grace and purpose. Praying for healing with faith, trusting His will, and growing to know Him personally are the steps we take to see God’s hand in our lives.

Healing may not always look the way we imagine, but God is faithful to bring it – sometimes in ways that transform us more deeply than we ever anticipated.
