A child in a blue plaid shirt smiles while holding an adult's hand. The adult wears a red plaid shirt. Green trees in blurred background.
The first step to becoming a God-seeker is simply saying, “Here I am, Lord.” One step toward Him changes everything.

The Father's Heart: A Call to Come Home

Yesterday was a truly wonderful day, as I celebrated my birthday surrounded by love and gratitude. But today, my reflections have taken a deeper turn. My heart has been heavy with the ache of longing—missing my son, Chris, and knowing I won’t see him this Christmas. As I sit with these emotions, God is gently reminding me of something profound: the depth of His yearning for all His children.

Years ago, the Lord gave me a glimpse of His heart. For three months, I was consumed by an overwhelming sense of loss, as if one of my own children had gone missing. My boys were safe at home, yet I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was searching for a child I hadn’t met but instinctively knew was mine. I fasted and prayed, desperate for answers, but the child I was searching for never appeared. Through this very intense experience, the Lord allowed me to experience the pain He feels as He searches for His children—those who have turned away, those who refuse to see Him.

I can’t begin to fathom the full weight of God’s yearning. My mind can't wrap around the enormity of multiplying those emotions for each person that He yearns for. What I felt for those three months was only a fraction of His longing, and it was unbearable. Yet God, in His infinite love and patience, bears this pain daily, calling to His children, waiting for them to turn back to Him.

This longing is not limited to only "certain" people. It extends to everyone—those on the margins, those who feel unworthy, those who are lost or hardened. Especially to them. Because when they turn, even the smallest turn, they will find a Father who has never stopped loving them. A Father whose arms are wide open, ready to embrace them fully, no matter what.

Missing My Own Child

Even now, God uses my own life to teach me about His heart. My oldest son lives in New York City, while I am in North Carolina. Coordinating time together as a family is a challenge, whether it’s for Christmas, birthdays, or vacations. I miss him deeply. I miss hearing about his day, seeing his face, and hugging him tightly. Each day that passes reminds me how quickly time slips away.

This longing to be with my son mirrors God’s longing for us. He is the ultimate Father, seeking out His children who are far from Him. Like a parent longing to hear their child’s voice, He calls day and night. And yet, so many refuse to answer. Can you imagine calling someone you love, over and over, and being met with silence? This is the heartache God feels every moment for those who are turned away.

A Message for You

Wherever you are right now—whatever you’ve done, whatever you’re carrying—I want you to know this: God is near. He’s watching you, waiting for you, calling to you. You don’t have to change anything about yourself to turn to Him. Just turn. That’s all it takes for Him to open His arms wide and draw you close.

God doesn’t require you to clean up your life or “fix” anything before coming to Him. He meets you where you are and will be with you, step by step, and draw you closer at your pace. Your relationship with Him isn’t mediated through someone else—it’s personal. It’s between you and Him. But the first step is to turn toward Him, or back to Him if you’ve strayed.

Preparing Hearts for What’s Ahead

As I transition to posting on this blog twice a week while preparing for the Confessions from the Kitchen podcast, I’ll continue sharing this series on becoming a God Seeker. The very first step to becoming a God Seeker is to turn to Him. My prayer is that you’ll hear this truth today: God is seeking you first. Wherever you are, whatever has happened in your life, He is looking for you. Not to condemn you, but to love you.

The Lord has placed this message on my heart. He desires a personal relationship with you, and He will walk with you, teaching  you in His perfect timing. It all begins with one simple step: turning to Him. He is waiting for you, arms open wide, ready to welcome you home.

My purpose is to share the truth of God’s love and grace because EVERYONE is welcome here to explore who He is. So today, I encourage you—just turn to Him. Trust that He will meet you right where you are and begin the beautiful work of becoming a God Seeker. I can promise you that if you seek Him and turn to Him you will find Him, because He is a faithful and loving God.

A Prayer to Close

Lord, thank You for Your endless love and patience. Thank You for never giving up on us, no matter how far we wander. I pray that everyone reading this feels Your presence and hears Your call today. Help us to turn to You, to trust You, and to rest in Your embrace. You are a good Father, and we are so grateful to be Your children. In Jesus' Name we pray - Amen.

If this message has touched your heart, I encourage you to share it with someone who might need to hear about God’s unfailing love. There’s someone in your life who is searching for hope, yearning for peace, or simply needs to be reminded that God’s arms are open wide for them. Let’s spread this message of love and grace together. Don’t forget to subscribe to the blog for more reflections and updates, and join me in sharing God’s truth with the world—one heart at a time. ❤️

In faith and friendship,

Maria
