Pt. 9 - Praying God's Word: Praying for Guidance

Waiting on God is a lesson in patience like no other. Trust me, I know – I waited a solid 25 years for the green light to start the website for this ministry. During those years, I wrestled with questions, dreams, and more than a few "Lord, is it time yet?" moments. When I finally felt the nudge to begin, God had a final, yet crucial, request: He wanted me to surrender the entire vision to Him. Now, I can honestly say I’m grateful I did, even if it took a quarter of a century and a little heavenly humor to get there!

Winding road through rugged mountains, under cloudy skies. A car travels the scenic route, surrounded by green hills and rocky terrain.
When you need direction, God’s Word lights the way. Pray it, trust it, follow Him

Since surrendering, my daily prayer has become a constant conversation with God, asking for guidance in every single word I write and each decision I make. It’s a practice of leaning on His wisdom over my own, letting Him steer every aspect of this ministry.

Here’s how I pray for guidance and trust in His Word, even as He shapes this journey in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Trusting God’s Wisdom: Beyond My Own Plans

Starting this website was like opening a new chapter – but this time, I let God hold the pen. Proverbs 3:5-6 has been my foundation:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Now, whenever I’m tempted to take the reins or overthink a project, I remember that His guidance is far better than my best-laid plans (and saves me a whole lot of worrying!).

A Surrendered Heart and a Willing Spirit

When I said "yes" to God’s lead, I wasn’t just agreeing to let Him start the website; I was also handing Him the blueprint, the vision, and every future update. Now, Psalm 25:4-5 has become my heart’s daily cry:

"Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."

This verse reminds me that praying for guidance isn’t just asking for directions – it’s asking to know His ways and follow them willingly.

Finding Peace When I Let Go of Control

One of the biggest challenges for me is releasing my worries to God. When the path seems unclear, I cling to Philippians 4:6-7:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

This is my reminder to approach each decision with gratitude and trust that God’s peace will settle in, even when I can’t see all the steps.

One Step at a Time with His Light

Sometimes, God only lights the next step, not the whole journey. And while that requires patience, Psalm 119:105 gives me hope:

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

With each prayer for guidance, I’m learning to appreciate that lamp, even when it only shows me the way forward one step at a time.

Asking for Wisdom in Each Step

Praying for guidance also means asking God to fill me with His wisdom. James 1:5 has become a lifeline:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."

Each time I sit down to write, create, or share something new, I pray for wisdom, trusting that God’s answers are shaping this ministry and its reach in ways I could never do alone.

A Little Laugh and a Prayer

After 25 years of waiting and then surrendering, I can look back and smile, maybe even chuckle a bit, at how perfectly God’s timing unfolded. Every day now, my prayer for guidance begins with gratitude and trust, letting go of control and inviting God to lead. Here’s the prayer I return to often from my Prayer Journal:

In the morning, O Lord You hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a prayer and an offering to You, and I watch and wait for You to speak to my heart. You are a God who takes pleasure in the righteous, my heart is set on You. Only goodness dwells in You there is no darkness.

I enter Your house through the abundance of Your steadfast love and tender mercy. At Your temple I bow obediently in reverence to You. O Lord, lead me in Your righteousness for Your Name's sake. Make Your way straight, before me so that I may walk upon it and follow You. For You alone are trustworthy, reliable and truthful. I will always take refuge and put my trust in You. In Jesus' Name Amen

God has made the journey worthwhile, filling it with humor, growth, and grace. And as I keep praying for guidance, I’m excited to see where He takes this ministry next – one surrendered step at a time.
