Whisked Wednesday - Starting Again (And Again)

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him; though he may stumble, he will not fall…”

There’s a quiet question a lot of us carry, especially when things don’t seem to come together.

How many times do I have to start over before it finally works? Or before I get there , wherever there is, or whatever it is.

We don’t usually say it out loud. We just feel the weight of it.Another idea that doesn’t move forward.Another door that closes.Another moment where it feels like we were so close and then suddenly, everything seems to stop.

I’ve learned something over the years: starting again isn’t a sign that you’ve failed.

Sometimes it’s a sign that God is protecting you and realigning you.

I waited a long time before stepping into the work God placed on my heart over twenty-five years, to be exact. Along the way, I did the small things I could. At times, I struggled even with those. And I watched hundreds of doors close. Not because I wasn’t trying hard enough or doing enough, but often because I was running ahead and I wasn’t ready.

For a long time, I had a mindset of doing things for God instead of learning how to do them with Him.

Closed doors used to feel like rejection. Like proof that I had missed it or made a mistake. But over time, I’ve come to see them differently. Sometimes God closes a door not to stop us, but to slow us down to reposition us.

Sometimes I don’t have to look far to see this pattern. Even this space you’re reading now has taken time  more time than I ever expected. More than once, God slowed me down when I thought I was finally moving forward. Looking back, I can see He wasn’t delaying me. He was teaching me how to abide  how to stay with Him instead of rushing ahead or striving.

God isn’t in a hurry. And He’s not counting how many times you’ve had to begin again.

Every restart is an invitation not to try harder, but to walk closer with Him.

If you’ve had to begin again more times than you can count, you’re not behind. If it’s taken longer than you thought it would, you’re not late. You may simply be learning the rhythm of moving with God instead of ahead of Him.

And when the time is right  the doors that matter won’t have to be forced open. They’ll open because you’re walking with Him. And you’ll find a sense of peace and ease you never had before.

If this season feels slower than you expected, or heavier than you hoped, you are not alone. The God who steadies your steps is not discouraged by your restarts. He is not surprised by the pauses. He is not measuring your progress the way you do.

He is forming you.

And the steps that matter most are not the fast ones they are the faithful ones. Even the small, quiet ones. Especially those.

So if you are beginning again today, begin gently. Begin with Him. And trust that the One who holds your steps knows exactly where you are and where He is leading you.

With you in the waiting and the walking,

Maria
