Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy takes its English name from a Greek title meaning “second law” or “repetition of the law,” though the book is not simply a second set of laws. Its Hebrew name, Devarim (דְּבָרִים), means “words,” from the opening phrase, “These are the words.” Deuteronomy records Moses’ final addresses to Israel as a new generation prepares to enter the Promised Land. He reminds them of God’s faithfulness, calls them to love the Lord wholeheartedly, and urges them to live faithfully within the covenant. It reveals the Lord as the faithful covenant God who desires the hearts of His people, not mere outward obedience, and calls them to remember, love, and walk in His ways.
