Jonah

Jonah takes its name from the prophet Yonah (יוֹנָה), whose name means “dove.” God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh, the capital of Assyria, and warn its people of coming judgment, but Jonah initially runs in the opposite direction. Through Jonah’s flight, rescue, reluctant obedience, and anger at Nineveh’s repentance, the book exposes the tension between human prejudice and God’s compassion. Jonah reveals the Lord as sovereign, patient, and merciful—the God who cares not only for Israel, but also for people far beyond its borders.
