Lamentations

Lamentations takes its Hebrew name, Eikhah (אֵיכָה), from its opening word, meaning “How?”—an expression of grief and shock. The book contains poetic laments over the destruction of Jerusalem and the suffering that followed Judah’s rebellion against God. Lamentations gives honest voice to sorrow, loss, and repentance while still holding onto hope in God’s character. It reveals the Lord as just and holy, yet also compassionate and faithful, whose mercies are new even in the midst of deep grief.
