Zephaniah

Zephaniah takes its name from the prophet Tsephanyah (צְפַנְיָה), whose name means “The LORD has hidden” or “The LORD has treasured.” Zephaniah speaks during the reign of King Josiah and warns Judah about the coming “day of the LORD,” a time of judgment against idolatry, injustice, and rebellion. Yet the book also holds out hope for those who humbly seek God. Zephaniah reveals the Lord as holy and just, but also merciful—the God who judges sin, gathers a faithful remnant, restores His people, and rejoices over them with love.
