Sept. 11, 2025 Knowing God: The Highest Pursuit
âLet not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.â (Jeremiah 9:23â24)

We live in a world that celebrates achievement. From a young age, we are taught to pursue wisdom, strength, and success. These things, while not wrong in themselves, can easily become the markers of our worth and the foundation of our identity. Yet God, speaking through Jeremiah, reminds us that none of these are the true measure of a life well lived. The greatest pursuit â the only one worth boasting about â is knowing Him.
To know God in the Hebrew sense (×Ö¸×֡ע yada) means more than head knowledge; it speaks of deep intimacy, relational closeness, and personal experience. Itâs the same word used of Adam âknowingâ Eve â relational union that changes everything. Knowing God is not simply about collecting facts about Him, but entering into a life-giving relationship where His presence shapes who we are.
When we chase wisdom, power, or wealth, our hearts are restless because those things cannot satisfy the soul. But when we know God, we discover a stability and joy that cannot be shaken. He is a God of kindness, justice, and righteousness qualities that mark His heart and spill into our lives when we walk closely with Him. The more we know Him, the more our lives reflect His values, and the more secure we are in His love.
So today, the question isnât, What have I achieved? but Do I know Him more deeply than I did yesterday? That is the measure of true success, and the pursuit that will carry into eternity.
Prayer:
Lord, help me value knowing You above everything else in life. Strip away the distractions that keep me
chasing empty pursuits. Teach me to delight in Your kindness, Your justice, and Your righteousness. May my greatest joy be in walking closely with You each day.
Reflection Questions:
Do I find more joy in accomplishments and recognition than in knowing God personally?
2. What is one practical step I can take today to deepen my relationship with Him?
