Loving God with All Your Heart
Scripture:
âLove the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.â (Deuteronomy 6:5)
Reflection:
This verse, known as the Shema, is the foundation of a life devoted to God. Loving Him with all your heart means loving Him from the very core of your being â your desires, affections, and motivations. Our heart is the wellspring of our actions, and when it is given fully to God, everything else flows in alignment with His will.
But wholehearted love doesnât happen by accident. It requires intentional surrender, letting God refine our priorities and affections. Loving Him with âallâ our heart leaves no room for divided loyalties. It challenges us to examine whether there are idols, distractions, or competing loves that take the place of God in our affections.
When we love God with all our heart, itâs not just about passion but about devotion. It is love that perseveres in hardship, clings to Him in uncertainty, and rejoices in Him above all else. This kind of love grows as we spend time in His presence and allow His Spirit to shape us.
Prayer:
Lord, I give You my whole heart today. Remove anything that competes with You for my affection and help me to love You with an undivided heart.
Reflection Questions:
What competes for first place in my heart?
How can I show God today that He has my wholehearted love?
