Delighting in God for Who He Is

Scripture:

â€œWhom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You.” (Psalm 73:25)

Reflection:

It is easy to love God for His blessings — the prayers answered, the peace given, the provision supplied. But true love for God is about delighting in Him for who He is, not just for what He gives. The psalmist declares that there is nothing on earth more desirable than God Himself. That is the language of love that has discovered its treasure.

Loving God for who He is requires a shift in perspective. Instead of approaching Him as the giver of good gifts, we begin to see Him as the greatest gift. His presence, His character, and His love are worth more than all the treasures of the world. This is the kind of love that sustains us even when life is difficult, when blessings seem far away, or when prayers feel unanswered.

As we grow in this love, we begin to find satisfaction not in circumstances, but in communion with Him. Our love becomes anchored in the unchanging nature of God, who is faithful, holy, merciful, and good.

Prayer:

Father, help me to love You for who You are, not just for what You give. Teach me to delight in Your presence above all else.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do I treasure God more than His blessings?

  2. How can I grow in loving Him simply for who He is?
