Judges

Judges takes its name from the leaders God raised up to deliver and guide Israel during the generations after Joshua. The book records a repeated cycle of rebellion, oppression, crying out to God, and rescue as Israel struggles to remain faithful to the covenant. Again and again, the people turn away from the Lord, yet He responds with both justice and mercy. Judges reveals the seriousness of life apart from faithful obedience and points to Israel’s growing need for righteous leadership. It also shows the Lord as the God who hears His people, disciplines them, and mercifully provides deliverance even in the midst of their failure.
