God Will Provide the Lamb
Genesis 22:7–8
“The fire and the wood are here,” said Isaac, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
“God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham replied.

Reflection
There is a moment in the Old Testament that quietly points forward to something much bigger. God asked Abraham to take his son Isaac to a mountain and offer a sacrifice. As they walked together, Isaac noticed something important. They had the wood. They had the fire.
But they didn’t have a lamb.
So Isaac asked a simple question:
“Where is the lamb for the offering?”
Abraham’s answer is one of the most powerful statements in the entire Bible.
“God Himself will provide the lamb.”
At that moment, Abraham didn’t yet know exactly how God would do it. But he trusted that somehow God would provide what was needed. And that is exactly what happened.
Just as Abraham was about to offer Isaac, God stopped him and provided a ram caught in the bushes. The sacrifice was made, and Isaac was spared. But the story was never only about Abraham and Isaac. It was pointing forward to something greater.
Hundreds of years later, during the time of Moses, God gave Israel the Passover. Each family was instructed to sacrifice a lamb and place its blood on the doorposts of their homes. When judgment passed through the land, the homes marked by the blood of the lamb were spared. Again, the same picture appears:
A lamb.
A sacrifice.
Blood that brings deliverance.
All of it was pointing forward to Jesus. When Jesus came, John the Baptist looked at Him and made a remarkable declaration:
“Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)
Jesus was the Lamb God had promised to provide. Where we could not pay the price for our sin, God provided the sacrifice Himself. On the cross, Jesus gave His life so that we could be forgiven, restored, and brought back into relationship with God.
From Abraham’s mountain…
to the blood of the Passover…
to the cross of Christ…
The message has always been the same.
God Himself provides the Lamb.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the incredible love You have shown in providing a sacrifice for our sin. Thank You for the promise that began long before Jesus came and was fulfilled through Him. Help me understand more deeply the beauty of Your grace and the gift of salvation You have given through Christ. Amen.
