Obedience as Love
Scripture:
“If you love Me, keep My commands.” (John 14:15)
Reflection:
Jesus makes it clear: love for Him is not just words or feelings — it shows up in obedience. This is not obedience out of fear or duty but obedience born from love. Just as a child who loves their parent desires to please them, so we, as God’s children, express our love through following His ways.
Obedience is often where love is tested. It’s easy to say “I love You, Lord” in worship, but when He asks us to forgive, to give generously, to surrender our pride — that is where love is proven. Loving God means trusting that His commands are for our good, even when they are hard.
When obedience feels costly, we can remember that Jesus obeyed the Father out of love for us. His example teaches us that obedience is not about loss but about love. The reward of obedience is deeper intimacy with Him and the joy of knowing we are walking in His will.
Prayer:
Jesus, help me to show my love for You through obedience. Teach me to trust Your commands as expressions of Your love for me.
Reflection Questions:
Do I see obedience as a burden or as an expression of love?
Where is God calling me to show love through obedience right now?
