Trusting the Shepherd’s Guidance
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;
He guides me in paths of righteousness for the sake of His name.
Psalm 23:1–3

Reflection
One of the most comforting images in the Bible is the picture of God as our Shepherd.
A shepherd doesn’t simply watch from a distance. He walks with his flock. He leads them to water, protects them from danger, and guides them along safe paths.
Jesus described Himself the same way. He is not only the Savior who rescues us, He is the Shepherd who leads us. When we begin walking with Jesus, we quickly realize something: life still has questions. We still face decisions, challenges, and moments where we aren’t sure what to do next. That’s where trusting the Shepherd becomes so important.
God promises that He will guide us. Sometimes that guidance comes through Scripture as we read His Word. Sometimes it comes through a quiet conviction in our hearts. Sometimes it comes through wise counsel from other believers. And often, His guidance comes one step at a time. Sheep don’t see the entire path ahead. They simply follow the shepherd who is walking in front of them.
In the same way, Jesus doesn’t always reveal the whole journey at once. Instead, He invites us to trust Him with the next step.
And the beautiful promise of Scripture is this:
The Shepherd knows exactly where He is leading you.
He leads toward peace.
He leads toward restoration.
He leads toward life.
As we learn to trust Him, step by step, we begin to see that walking with Jesus is about staying close to Him.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Shepherd. Thank You for guiding my life even when I cannot see the whole path ahead. Help me trust Your leadership and follow where You lead. Teach me to stay close to You and walk with confidence in Your care. Amen.
