When the Judge Says Your Fine Has Been Paid
Galatians 3:24
So the law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Reflection
Let me share a simple story that helps explain something important about the law and why Jesus came.
Imagine you’re standing in a courtroom.
The judge looks at you and says, “You’re free to go. Your fine has already been paid.”
At first you might feel relieved, but then you’d probably be confused. You might say, “Wait… what fine? I didn’t even know I owed anything.”
So the judge explains.
“You were speeding doing 55 in a 25 school zone. The law says the fine for that offense is five thousand dollars. Because you broke the law, you are facing the penalty.”
Suddenly the situation makes sense. Now you understand the seriousness of the situation. You understand the penalty. And when you hear that someone has already paid the fine for you, that gift suddenly feels incredibly meaningful.
But imagine if the judge had never told you about the law you broke. Imagine he simply said, “Someone paid your fine.”
You might walk away puzzled instead of grateful.
This is why God gave us His law.
The Ten Commandments help us see the truth about our hearts. They show us where we’ve fallen short of God’s perfect goodness. The law reveals something we might not recognize on our own—that we cannot make ourselves right with God.
And once we understand that, the message of Jesus begins to shine with incredible beauty.
Because Jesus didn’t come to congratulate people who thought they had everything together. He came to rescue people who needed forgiveness.
On the cross, Jesus took the penalty for our sin. He paid the price we could never pay ourselves. When we understand the law, we begin to understand grace. The mirror of God’s law shows us our need. And the love of Jesus provides the answer.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for showing me the truth about my heart. Help me understand why I need Your grace and forgiveness. Thank You for sending Jesus to pay the price I could never pay on my own. Help me live each day with gratitude for the mercy You have given me. Amen.
