Becoming a God Seeker: Pursuing God Daily
Part 1 – The Necessity of Seeking God

Have you ever felt like something was missing in your relationship with Jesus? Maybe you attend church regularly, join Bible studies, and serve in ministry, yet you still feel distant from Him. These are all good things, but without a loving relationship with God, they won’t bring the intimacy your soul craves.
It’s like a husband who takes out the trash, drives the kids to school, and pays the bills but barely speaks to his wife. From the outside, he looks like a good husband—he’s doing all the right things. But if he’s not on speaking terms with his wife, there’s no real connection or intimacy. Would you still call him a good husband? Probably not.
Now, consider your relationship with Jesus. Where is your heart? Is it close to Him, or does it feel far away? Does your soul long to spend time with Him? For years, I struggled with this very question.
I would often hear Christian speakers or teachers talk about having an intimate relationship with God. I would nod enthusiastically, thinking, Yes, I want that! But no matter how much I wanted it, I couldn’t seem to bridge the gap between wanting a relationship with Jesus and actually having one.
I tried waking up early to pray. I tried spending time in the Word. But over time, my efforts would fade, and I would feel disheartened. Eventually, my time with God would diminish. It was a frustrating cycle—pray, feel distant, stop praying, and start again.
This pattern reminded me of relationships in real life. At the beginning, everything feels exciting—you can’t wait to spend time together. But as life gets busy with jobs, homes, and children, that spark can fade, and before long, you’re barely acknowledging each other as you crawl into bed.
But here’s the beautiful truth: Jesus never stops pursuing us. Even when we’re distracted or distant, He’s always drawing us back to Himself. So why was I still struggling to connect with Him?
I realized I was missing the heart of a God Seeker.
In Hosea 6:6, God says, “For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” And in Deuteronomy 6:4-5, we’re reminded:
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Even the Israelites struggled with this. They started strong in their devotion to God, but when Moses was gone for just a little too long, they turned to worship idols. (Sound familiar?)
David, however, was different. The Bible calls him “a man after God’s own heart.” But it wasn’t because he was perfect—far from it! David sinned, failed, and stumbled many times. Yet he always turned back to God. No matter what was happening in his life, David sought the Lord with all his heart.
We’re commanded repeatedly in Scripture to seek God:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6)
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
It’s not enough to go through the motions or check off a spiritual to-do list. God wants your heart. He’s inviting you to seek Him—not just once, but daily.
Being a God Seeker means prioritizing your relationship with Jesus above everything else. It’s about pursuing Him with all your heart, soul, and might. But it’s not just about seeking—it’s about finding Him.
As I continue this journey of becoming a God Seeker, I’m learning to move from wanting a relationship with Jesus to truly experiencing one. And I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
Reflection Question:Are you a God Seeker, or have you settled for going through the motions?
Let’s pursue Him together. Let’s become God Seekers—and better yet, God Finders.
Becoming a God Seeker is a journey, not a destination. It starts with recognizing the necessity of seeking God and cultivating a heart that desires Him above all else. Remember, He’s not looking for perfect actions but a heart devoted to Him. Let’s commit to seeking Him daily, trusting that as we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.
